Jacksonville's Baptist Health Collects Over $1M in Self-Pay Per Month

Since 1955, Baptist Health has been the center of patient-centered care in Jacksonville, Fla. Now comprising six hospitals and 200 primary care and specialty office locations throughout the community, Baptist Health is consistently ranked as the most preferred healthcare organization in Jacksonville.

Enabling Patients to Effortlessly Pay Their Bills

As patient responsibility continued to increase, it was important for Philip Boyce, chief revenue officer, and Susan Higginbotham, director of revenue cycle, to find a patient payment solution that would delight patients. They wanted a way for patients to pay that would improve the patient payment experience. 

Every vendor they evaluated, however, was more of the same. Text messages that route to a patient portal, mobile apps tied to numbers only found on a printed paper statement, etc.

There wasn't a mobile payment option that felt like an entirely new payment channel. 

A Chance Encounter with CueSquared

Until, Boyce saw CueSquared's MobilePay. "It was like nothing we had seen before," he says. "You don't have to go to a portal. You can make payment right from the text. Why not offer that option to patients?" 

It was clear to him that MobilePay was a payment channel Baptist Health didn't already offer to its patients.

The MobilePay Difference

Baptist Health went live on MobilePay in September of 2019 and nearly two years later, they generate more than a million dollars per month in patient self-pay revenue through MobilePay and more than 21% of its patient responsibility is paid through that channel alone.

As a driver of patient satisfaction, more than 97% of patients say that MobilePay is very easy to use in order to pay their bills. 

"Patients rave about it," says Higginbotham.
